Liverpool transfer news LIVE: Fekir to Chelsea talks tonight, Klopp on deals, Bailey eyed
Liverpool are set to miss out on Christian Pulisic, Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge claims.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast about the Borussia Dortmund star, Bridge said: “[Naby] Keita had the £48million release clause which kicked in this summer and Liverpool paid a premium on that to secure him.
“Leipzig were destined to lose him anyway but Dortmund aren’t in that position with Pulisic.
“He is some player. You’d imagine him having interest from all the top European clubs.
“Jurgen Klopp absolutely gets a player when he likes them.”
Fekir to Chelsea?
Chelsea will open talks with Lyon over a deal for Nabil Fekir tonight, Express Sport understands.
The Blues are looking to add to their squad with Thursday’s 5pm transfer deadline looming.
And Express Sport understands they will try and open channels with Lyon over a deal for Fekir today.
Chelsea take on Lyon in their final pre-season match of the summer at Stamford Bridge.
The game kicks off at 8pm and comes just two days after their Community Shield loss to Manchester City.
Talks with Lyon over a possible £55m deal for Fekir will be held.
Leon Bailey has appeared to confirm interest from Liverpool, stating they are one of several clubs who hold a “concrete interest” in signing him.
Bailey has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga in recent months with Chelsea, Liverpool and Serie A side Roma all interested in his signature.
And when asked about interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Roma, Bailey told Kicker: “There’s concrete interest.
Klopp on transfers
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refused to rule out splashing more cash before deadline day.
The German has already added Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri to his ranks this summer.
And he continues to be linked with potential new signings, despite suggesting his business was all done.
Lyon skipper Nabil Fekir could head to Anfield before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday.
And Klopp opted against pouring water on speculation when asked about striking deals in the coming days.
“I can’t kill your D-Day where people sit in front of the TV and watch,” Klopp said after Liverpool’s 5-0 trashing of Napoli.
Fekir speaks out
Nabil Fekir has broken his silence on the continued rumours linking him with a move away from Lyon, suggesting he could still leave.
Liverpool were close to completing a deal for Fekir earlier in the summer, only for the club to pull out over concerns on the midfielder’s long history of knee problems.
That hasn’t stopped transfer rumours circulating that Liverpool could still make a late before the transfer window closes.
“As you can see, I am in Lyon. I am very happy here,” Fekir told Lyon’s official club TV station.
“But the transfer window is still long and everything goes very quickly in football.
“We don’t know what will happen in the future but I am very happy at Lyon. I feel brilliant in this squad.”
Clyne going nowhere
Jurgen Klopp has decided against cashing in on Nathaniel Clyne and the right-back could be in line to start against West Ham on Sunday.
That’s according to the London Evening Standard, who claim Klopp has been impressed with the 27-year-old during pre-season.
Clyne battled with a persistent back problem last season which kept him out of action for the most part of the campaign, playing just five games.
Both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez stepped up in his place and established themselves as key members of Liverpool’s defence.
That led to some speculation suggesting Clyne could be on his way out of Anfield before Thursday’s transfer deadline, but it seems Klopp still values the full-back as a crucial part of his plans.
