Transfer news LIVE: Chelsea star MISSING, Man Utd £80m bid, Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona
Manchester United feel Mino Raiola’s latest agitation may be a ploy to get Paul Pogba a bigger contract, according to reports.
Raiola is believed to be working on a deal for Pogba to join Barcelona for £100m.
Manchester United have so far rejected an offer of £45m and two players – Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes – for Pogba and don’t want to sell.
But his agent’s movement has indicated that Pogba wants out of the club after a tense second season back under Jose Mourinho.
However, according to the Daily Mail, United believe Raiola could be trying to get Pogba more money.
Pogba was usurped as United’s highest-paid player in January when Alexis Sanchez signed from Arsenal.
He tried to get parity at the time and United suspect this may be a move to get him back to the top of the club’s rich list.
Courtois calls Sarri
Thibaut Courtois told Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri last week he wanted to leave so he can be closer to his children.
That is according to Belgian football expert Kristof Terreur.
Courtois has one year left on his contract and talks over an extension have not resulted in an agreement.
Real Madrid is Courtois’ preferred destination as it would allow him to be nearer to his two young children.
And writing on Twitter, Terreur said: “Thibaut Courtois had a phone call with Maurizio Sarri last week, in which he expressed his desire to leave for Real to be closer to his children.”
Express Sport understands Real have made a £35m offer for Courtois and Chelsea would let him leave if they signed a replacement.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has pleaded with the club not to let Paul Pogba leave.
Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, is thought to be trying to strike a deal with the Catalan giants but the Red Devils are reluctant to part with the midfielder after spending £89m on him two summers ago.
While Pogba looks to seal his exit, manager Jose Mourinho is focused on bringing in another two players, with a new centre-back his priority.
And it’s clear from Ferdinand’s tweet who he feels executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward should be looking to sign.
He tweeted: “Don’t you dare allow this ED… #MUFC is Pogba’s home!! Silence these rumours ASAP & get @AlderweireldTob through the door.”
Alderweireld remains strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford with his future at Spurs unclear.
Fekir to Chelsea talks
But a move to west London for the France international is far from a certainty.
Fekir almost joined Liverpool before the World Cup only for his deal to collapse at the 11th hour due to concerns found in his medical.
The Reds have since dropped their interest in the France international, who went on to win the World Cup in Russia.
Jack Butland, AC Milan’s Pepe Reina, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Sevilla’s Sergio Rico are the possible contenders to replace Thibaut Courtois at Chelsea.
Courtois has gone AWOL as he tries to force a move to Real Madrid.
Courtois was due to return after holiday to training with Chelsea on Monday afternoon where talks with new manager Maurizio Sarri were scheduled, but he did not turn up at the club’s Cobham HQ.
And now the Blues will press ahed with finding a replacement before Thursday’s 5pm deadline.
Mateo Kovacic goes AWOL
Manchester United have been given a boost in their pusuit of Real Madrid star Mateo Kovacic, reports claim.
Kovacic has found himself linked with a move to Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho has been eyeing a deal for the ex-Inter Milan star as he seeks to add more quality to his squad.
Recent reports had suggested that Kovacic was unwilling to play for United.
But now according to Spanish paper Marca, Kovacic has gone AWOL and refused to turn up training.
However, it is suggested he will stay in the Spanish capital until his future is sorted.
Jack Grealish statement
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has conceded he might find it hard to keep hold of Jack Grealish.
Tottenham and Chelsea have both been around Grealish, who are both interested in striking a deal.
Previously, it was thought that Villa would have to sell Grealish to balance their books.
But Bruce is worried that Grealish could leave before deadline day.
“He is a wonderful talent,” Bruce said.
“We will do our best to keep hold of him, but it is going to be difficult.”
Paul Pogba swap deal blasted
Manchester United should not consider a swap deal with Barcelona for Paul Pogba, according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.
Reports emerged on Monday that Manchester United turned down a swap deal involving Pogba which was a player-plus-cash situation.
It was claimed that Barca were willing to sacrifice Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes to make a transfer happen.
But according to Redknapp, the proposed offer makes no sense whatsoever.
“Man Utd don’t need two players that can’t get into the Barcelona team,” Redknapp said on The Debate.
“I wouldn’t do that deal. No chance!”
Pogba swap rejected
Manchester United have reportedly snubbed the opportunity to trade Paul Pogba for two Barcelona players – plus £45m in cash.
Pogba’s future has been the subject of plenty of speculation since last season with his and Jose Mourinho’s relationship strained.
Barcelona has been touted as a potential destination for the midfielder, with his agent Mino Raiola keen to seal a deal.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reckons Barcelona have launched a bid for Pogba.
However, United were unwilling to entertain their offer which involved Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and £45m (€50m) cash.
United could return to the negotiating table for Mina though, with Mourinho eager to add to his defensive options.
Shakhtar Donetsk winer Bernard will have a medical at Everton.
The Toffees have agreed a deal with the free agent to leave Ukrainian side Shakhtar.
Bernard, 26, will have a medical on Merseyside this week.
Chelsea and West Ham have both missed out on the winger, who could be followed by Barcelona’s Yerry Mina at Goodison Park.
Kepa to Chelsea
Chelsea are willing to trigger Kepa Arrizabalaga’s release clause and sign him as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea need a goalkeeper in place in case Courtois joins Real Madrid.
The Blues are interested in Jack Butland but Spanish newspaper AS claim a move for Arrizabalaga is also on the cards.
Arrizabalaga, who is under contract at Athletic Bilbao until 2025, will be paid more than his current £68,000-a-week wages.
Arrizabalaga has a £71m (€80m) release clause that Chelsea would have to trigger to force Bilbao to sell up.
Courtois himself would cost Real around £35m.
Man Utd deal backed
Manchester United can go head-to-head with Premier League champions Manchester City if they bolster their defence with a centre-half, says Peter Crouch.
“Looking in from the outside, you don’t need to be a genius to realise this summer has not gone as they would have wanted,” said Crouch.
“A word of warning, though, to anyone who feels they are in trouble: never write off a Jose Mourinho team.
“When all the players are back, look at the depth of their squad. Tell me how a team with Paul Pogba in midfield and Romelu Lukaku up front won’t win loads of matches? Pogba is someone I’m very keen on watching over the next 12 months.
“He should come back from the World Cup full of confidence and I want to see him stamp his authority on the biggest games, like he did in April’s Manchester derby. If United add a central defender, they have the quality to push City all the way.”
